Rocks Riverside Splash Park

Project Objectives

Rocks Riverside Park has been a beloved family destination for over twenty years. Situated on the site of the historic Oxley Wharf, once a vital link in Brisbane’s cement industry, the park draws families from across the city to its 26 hectares of riverfront parkland.

After two decades of constant use, the water play area needed renewal. Brisbane City Council sought a partner to reimagine the splash park experience. Atlantis was engaged to develop an inclusive concept to honour the heritage of the wharf and manufacture fit-for-purpose equipment suited to Brisbane’s demanding climate and one of the city’s busiest parks.

Concept Design

The design centres on heritage as inspiration. The site’s past as an industrial wharf, where cement silos, conveyor systems and river transport once dominated the landscape, provided the conceptual foundation.

Atlantis created a custom silo-themed dumping bucket as the splash park’s signature feature, echoing the industrial structures that once defined the riverfront. This bespoke element transforms industrial memory into joyful discovery, connecting children to the history beneath their feet.

Supporting play elements , including leaky pipes, water jets, a rain curtain and a formed-concrete cog water channel, balance active and exploratory play, creating a dynamic experience for all ages and abilities. The layout encourages movement, experimentation and extended dwell time, with zones that support different play styles and family needs.
